Malik Kassim is enjoying his most productive year yet, with this
predictably impressive EP - his second for Handy - marking his fifth
outing as Retromigration in 2022. He's in prime deep, jazzy, loose and
languid mode on title track 'Also Durag', where snaking sax solos,
drowsy electronic piano chords, spacy synth motifs and thickset aural
textures ride bumpin' beats and warming bass. Earl Jeffers provides
the obligatory remix, teasing out a string of jumpy electronic loops
and cut-up vocal snippets before introducing hard, stomping house
beats. Elsewhere, 'You and Dion' is a rolling, sun-splashed slab of
classic sounding deep house warmth, while 'Stop The Presses' is a
relaxed, shuffling and pleasingly drowsy warm-up workout.
