Cinthie has tended to use the 803 Crystal Grooves Collective Cuts
label to showcase music from friends and contemporaries, but sometimes
chooses to give a leg up to lesser-known producers. That's the case
here as she offers up an EP from Amsterdam duo D Stone (real name Daan
Steenman) and Milion (Max de Leeuw). The headline attraction is
undoubtedly 'The Next Morning', a chunky slab of revivalist mid-90s
NYC house rich in organ stabs, snappy beats, eyes-closed female vocal
snippets and funky Clavinet licks. The pair opt for a sleazier sound
on the infectious, similarly nostalgic stomp of 'The Night Before'
(the stabs and organ licks are very Mood To Swing), while 'Floor Call'
is a beefy, always-rising slab of peak-time house of the sort that
would make Danny Tenaglia purr.
