Sterling reminder of Swayzaks deep minimal
techno steez, presenting their 1998 debut LP in
newly nipped n tucked edits and mixes by the
reformed duo - RIYL Ricardo Villalobos,
Convextion, Pub, Craig Richards
Between the mid-late 90s and early part of the
2010s, Swayzak were standard bearers for a
brand of fresh, minimal techno-house that
bridged earlier phases of techno and what would
become ubiquitous as tech-house. Driven by a
search for the perfect beat and elusive
electronic soul, they did not throw out the
baby with the bathwater, retaining the sort of
melodic and atmospheric content and deep
grooves that made original house, techno and
electronica so effective, as opposed to the
wave of identikit minimal piffle that would
follow.
Snowboarding in Argentina is a real deep
session symptomatic of the best of its era,
here presented as a sort of directors cut
edition with subtle tweaks in keeping with its
timeless vision. Its arguably the sort of
stuff thats notable by its absence from the
floor in the current era, where sugar-rush
immediacy and performative antics take
precedence over hypnotic music like this. Were
talking deep burners such as Speedboat with
its skin-kissing pads and clipped garage-techno
swing, the Convextion-Espque sensuality of
Burma Heights, and lip-biting deep house gems
such as Fukumachi, or the Villalobos-liek
stride of l.o.9.v.e., thru to Detroit-skooled
dub techno on Bueno, all primed for
fluttering eyelids, mushed lips and swivelling
limbs locked into the groove all night long.
