As the New Year appears, 2022 sees fresh music come into focus 
as Meanwhile Horizons welcomes Chris Zippel to the roster and 
his Noosphere / Ombra EP.

An iconic artist with a host of impressive production 
credentials to his name, Chris Zippel, has been at the vanguard 
of electronic music since the age of 15. His portfolio thus sees 
music writing credits for the Pet Shop Boys, Robbie Williams, 
Norah Jones and Paul Van Dyk in a long and illustrious career. 
Splitting his time between his Berlin hometown and the party 
island of Ibiza, Zippel also has a raft of solo production 
credits to his name, dating back to a debut for Organic Records 
in early 2001. Since then, a cornucopia of underground 
electronic music has found its way onto the likes of Elektrolux, 
Parasol Phonotheque, Ubersee Music and Allisum Records.

Now debuting on GMJ and Matter's sister imprint, Chris Zippel 
opens with the spellbinding Noosphere. Anchored upon a thumping 
beat and ticking hi-hat percussion, a rolling groove is the 
perfect bedrock for a hypnotic analogue bassline to propel the 
track forwards, accompanied by a smooth arpeggio and sympathetic 
melodic phrasing. The result is a rare and emotive combination 
that arouses hairs on the back of the neck as Noosphere builds 
in unrelenting fashion to a rousing dnouement in the second half.

Continuing the rich melodic building blocks of its partner 
track, Ombra is a slightly more relaxed affair with its 
beautifully sculpted analogue envelopes that simultaneously 
harness the spirit of Jean Michel Jarre, Vangelis and Georgio 
Moroder. A gloriously filtered arpeggio meanders across 
proceedings as white noise crashes and ethereal chord sequences 
paint a vivid sonic picture, gradually revealing itself across 
an 8-minute timeframe, atop a sumptuous undulating groove.

Out of the shadows, Chris Zippel is able to harness a sublime 
musical evolution, illustrated by his Noosphere / Ombra EP.
