Operating between Berlin and London, and on their own self-titled
label, Energy Exchange Ensemble specialises in "organically
engineered" house music, much of which is rooted in live
instrumentation and improvised jam sessions. This excellent
compilation rounds up their releases to date, flitting between
percussion-rich, sun-splashed Latin house (Oscar Jerome collaboration
'Lime Green Skies'), starry ambient jazz ('Art Make Love'), languid
soulful house ('Brighter Star' featuring Allysha Joy), jazz-funk
flecked and deliciously fluid ultra-deepness ('On My Toes' with CC
Dance Orchestra), slo-mo deep nu-disco with an Afro twist ('Obana
(Zeitgeist 808 Remix)'), nu-jazz (the broken beat-influenced
brilliance of 'East Moon') and tactile retro-futurism (the squelchy
'Smiling Down On Me', where Cody Currie and Allysha Joy both lend a
hand).
