Etienne de Crecy is taking bold steps with his
new album "Warm Up". The man who is known for
moving people on the dance floor at night has
created an album that can be enjoyed at home
during the day: The tracks are more chilled
than clubby, more organic than electronic,
warmer, less metallic. Has he gone mad?
Rather, it's the world still in Covid, a time
that doesn't lend itself to reverberating
beats, that has led him to make an album for
the home. A shift in tempo. Another hallmark of
this project is the guests. For each track, he
invited an artist, often from a genre far
removed from his own, and asked them to free-
write a song based on the instrumental he
provided - his only guiding principle. This
took him out of his comfort zone, away from the
club and the cube that carried him up, away
from a dancefloor fueled by his sets, away from
an album where he had total control, towards a
soundscape with intentionally blurred
boundaries and added unpredictability.
The lineup he's assembled includes an array of
surprising personalities with musical
influences ranging from indie pop to rap. The
DJ of heady, dizzying nights reinvents himself
as a generous, curious host who shares his
infectious joy. With contributions from Damon
Albarn, Alexis Taylor, Peter Von Poehl, Frank
Leone, Sports, Master Peace, Olivia Merilahti,
Sugar Pit, Kero Kero Bonito and Caroline Rose.
