Gideon Berger - he of Block 9 at Glasto fame - launched the Homo-
Centric label last year, initially as an outlet for his own
productions. His latest missive - the popular DJ/producer's third
release on the imprint - sees him explore the acid and classic house
influences that have long formed the backbone of his late-night DJ
sets. Guest vocalist Mandel Turner makes his presence felt on 'Nothing
Without You' and its excellent partner 'Dub' mix, adding a soulful and
humanising veneer to jacking machine jams full of hard-wired TB-303
acid lines and classic house organ riffs. That vibe is further
explored on the wilder, more loose-limbed and undeniably sweater
Chicago jack-track that is 'Storytime', before Berger dips the tempo
and reaches for smacked-out disco samples on the slow-but-weighty
hedonism of 'The West Bank'.
