The artist originally known as Stupid Human, Hugh Mane, has delivered
many of his most impactful club cuts on Gerd Janson's Running Back
label, leaving his imprint (also called Stupid Human) as a vehicle for
a wider variety of sounds. 'Concepts & Sketches', his latest EP,
continues in this vein, first offering up a jaunty, musically
expansive and undeniably colourful excursion that blurs the boundaries
between nu-disco, electrofunk and starry deep house ('The Road Is
Bad'), before giving us his take on P-Funk via the Dam-Funk-esque
'Ravi's Groove'. 'Empirical Jams' takes a tactile, intergalactic-
sounding approach to deep house dustiness, while closing cut 'Landing
Zone' is a wonderfully glassy-eyed and vibrant take on spacey synth-
funk.
