Named in honour of one of her old EPs, Queendom is a new multi-artist
EP series from Detroit producer DJ Minx's Women On Wax imprint.
Fittingly, Mix sets the tone with 'Let It Ride', a techno-tempo
driving Detroit deep house number rich in sequenced bass and
deliciously dreamy pads, before Shaun J Wright joins the dots between
militant electro,21st century soul, acid and wonky lo-fi house (the
hard-to-pigeonhole 'Reflection Protection') and Nita Aviance impresses
via the Chicago jack-meets-Motor City futurism of 'Craving'. Further
fine forays onto the dancefloor are provided by DJ Cent (the sub-heavy
late-night deep house bounce of 'Coming To Heaven', featuring spoken
word vocal contributions from Ken Collier), Sydney Blu (the futurist,
peak-time house throb of 'Underground Vibrations') and Debbie Graham
(the classically spacey deep house funk of 'Free').
