Disco-flavoured soulful house might not be 

flavour of the month, but it's alive and well 

in the 2020s if you know where to look! And a 

good place to start looking this week would be 

this VFM-packed 33-track compilation from Yam 

Who?'s Midnight Riot label. There are, 

admittedly, one or two forays into full-on Hed 

Kandi-esque commercialism - but only one or 

two, leaving you with 30 or so very playable 

cuts that were built to make dancefloors heave 

with bodies round about midnight on a Saturday 

night, and that will very reliably do just 

that. Featuring a range of artists both well- 

known (Ron Carroll, [email protected], Ivan Pica, 

Mannix, Phonk D) and somewhat less so, if 

you're a fan of the style generally this is a 

must.
